Earning a living

It is not easy consistently earning a living in a foreign but being creative helps you out. Since you do not possess a business permit which allows you to own and run a business.

Do not dare run one openly! Many Nigerians here do under the radar businesses as most are here in Kenya on a short-term visa.  Many have devised a way of using their Kenyan colleagues as a front for their businesses, using their names to register and operate businesses but it could be risky depending on who you are associating with.

Though Swahili is the common language of communication but the English language is also a national language alongside Swahili, so as a newbie one could easily communicate freely in English language.

Should you as a Nigerian run a business without a permit, which is very, very expensive to process, the Kenyan authority have every authority to swoop on you, confiscate your assets and have you deported. Be very careful not to expose yourself.

Nigerians do bring in hair extension, spare parts and other stuffs from Nigeria to sell here . The stable power supply has given many an opportunity to work online as many have the opportunity to work from the comfort of their homes without having to move around. Since internet access is quite cheap here as one can subscribe to Airtel Kenya's 3GB for N475 valid for 24hrs or 15GB for N2,470 valid for 7 days. l personally disassociate from any thought of utilizing this cheaper access to the internet for any form of fraudulent activity.

Bringing in things from Lagos (Nigeria) to Nairobi (Kenya) is quite affordable as it costs about N700 per kg going through some lgbo guys who run this link. All one has to do is have their goods dropped with their receiving agent at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos. by Friday of every week and pay N350  per kg then by the next Tuesday one goes to the office of the Nigerian agent here in Nairobi to collect his/her good and pays an equivalent of about N350 per kg before collection, One has no business with the Kenyan customs.

Some do export Kenyan handmade crafts to Europe and the U.S.

    1. It has even become better as Airtel Kenya now offers for N2000, 2GB of data, 400mins of call to all network in Kenya and 2000sms valid for 30days. Should you even exhaust your 2GB on the first day of subscription, you will continue to browse, download stuffs till the end of the 30days with the 0MB balance!
