My Neighbours, Mutual Strangers!

One thing l have learnt very soundly living here is, Mind your own life! l cannot even recognize the face of a fellow resident on the same floor of the apartment building where l live, should l meet her on the road and we have been neighbours for over 7 months!  No be me cause am!

Nairobians are so into being too private, even if you meet a neighbour along the stairways and don't acknowledged them, it is accepted but try that in Nigeria..you are going to be the topic!

l have infected  three of my neighbours with the Nigerian neighbourliness warmth. At first they were shocked that l greeted them and do ask how their day have been, little by little they began to warm up to me. They are now the one's that even greet me first by screaming 'how far'!...lol

l recall one of them confessing to me that she loves how Nigerians greet, that when she watches Nigerian movies on TV and observe our neighbourliness she thought it was only acting but l have proven to her that it is our way of life.

One thing l have noticed is that wherever a Nigerian is living here they tend to rub off on their Kenyan neighbours, like l have done!

  2. LOL. It's a Naija thing. Happens in other countries too.
Hmm...Pass your neighbour on the staircase without greeting? The Naija family will include you in their prayer points. :)
